Happy days! You have been looking forward to your breast augmentation for so long and your operation is finally over. Everything went well and painlessly. Now the recovery process can begin. To support you in this process, we would like to give you a few tips.
The first days after breast augmentation
When the breast augmentation operation is completed, you will be taken to the recovery room. There the anaesthetist will start the awakening process. Our nurses will keep a close eye on you. They will monitor all your bodily functions as you wake up. After this, you will be taken to your room.
When you feel fit enough, you may be taken home. Under no circumstances may you drive yourself. Because you have been under complete anaesthetic, you will not be able to drive safely.
After the procedure, your breasts may feel a little tight. The chest region can also be sensitive. It is perfectly normal when your breast implants seem to be a bit higher and your nipples a bit lower. Your breasts and nipples will gradually change and heal. You need not worry if one breast reacts differently from the other. The process takes time and is different for everyone. This depends on the type and size of the implants placed. Your skin and morphology also play an important role in this. This healing process is also called the "Drop & Fluff" process.
In addition, you may feel slightly uncomfortable and emotional during the first few days. A bloated feeling or constipation can also occur. This is a normal consequence of the anaesthetic. You don't have to worry about this. That will go away by itself. What helps is wearing loose clothing and, if necessary, putting a hot water bottle on your belly.
It is best to take the correct amount of medication we have prescribed for you at the indicated times. This will help to prevent or reduce the unpleasant feeling. We also advise you to take it easy for the first few days after the operation. Even if you do not feel any pain. Do not clean the whole house or perform heavy work. Rest and sleep enough and watch some fun series on Netflix.
Make sure you make yourself as comfortable as possible after the operation. Choose loose clothing that you don't have to pull over your head. During the first few days, you will be able to move around your arms, chest and abdomen with a little more difficulty. So ask a friend or family member to stay with you for the first few days after the operation and help you. In addition, it is not recommended to lift small children or heavy things for up to six weeks after the operation.
Sleeping position after breast augmentation
Sleeping can be a bit uncomfortable in the beginning. We advise you to sleep sitting down at an angle of 45 degrees for the first two weeks. In this way, the swelling can be better reduced. In any case, do not sleep on your stomach or side. It is best to put an extra pillow behind or under your lower back. This provides support and prevents you from rolling on your side. Sleeping upright also contributes to the "Drop & Fluff" process.
The compression bandage
After the procedure we apply a compression bandage that is wrapped tightly around your breasts. The compression bandage prevents possible postoperative bleeding. It also contributes to the end result. This is why it is important that it is worn for fourteen days.
It is possible that your breasts will feel a little tight and warm during recovery. You are welcome to put on an ice pack once in a while to relieve this feeling. Try to avoid the places of the incision and do not lay the ice directly on the skin. Rather wrap a towel or garment around it.
Exercise after breast augmentation
Do not exercise for six weeks after the operation. If you do want to exercise a bit, we advise you to take a walk. This also contributes to blood circulation. When you resume exercising, it is important to listen to your body.
Always follow all instructions given by our surgeons, assistants and anaesthetists. This will give you the best and quickest results. After the operation, we will look together at how we can speed up the desired end result. Of course you will want to see your dream bosom as soon as possible. Do not worry. Soon you will be able to enjoy the final result!
