Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive surgery for hair transplantation in which hair follicles are transplanted from a donor area towards the reception zone. A punch is used to extract one follicle at a time from the donor area. The punch size is tailored to the patient's situation and each unit may contain between one to four hairs. The grafts are then carefully extracted, treated, cooled and temporarily stored until they can be implanted into the recipient zone(s). Very small incisions are made in the recipient area and the individual hair follicles are then implanted.
The graft extraction zone heals quickly within a few days, while the newly transplanted grafts will fall out within the first two months after surgery due to the trauma of the transplantation, however, they will revive and retake growth again after approximately 4 -5 months. The transplanted hairs will continue to develop in the 12 – 14 months after the operation. Thereafter the newly transplanted hair cannot be distinguished anymore from the other hair and will experience the same rest and growth cycles as all other hair.

Your anaesthetist will insert a needle into your arm through which the medication will be injected. It takes about 10 seconds to take effect.
After surgery, incisions are closed with dissoluble sutures and necessary plasters and bandages are applied. When general anaesthesia or intravenous sleep sedation is applied, the anaesthetist will start the wake up process and you will be transferred to the recovery area where you will be closely monitored.
After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery area where you will be closely monitored by our medical staff. If the surgery took place under general anaesthesia or intravenous sleep sedation, your bodily functions will routinely be monitored whilst you start to awake.
Once you are fully conscious, you will be taken to your room where you can continue resting until you feel fit to go home.
Some surgeries require patients to stay overnight.

All stitches are dissoluble so you don't need to visit your family doctor or a nurse to remove them. Depending on the type of surgery you might be expected to return for a follow-up consultation. You will be informed accordingly by our team members.
