Our eyes are one of the most attractive body parts. As we age, our bodies change, and excess skin and fat accumulate around the eyes. Do you also suffer from this and want to get back a fresh and awake look? Then an eyelid correction is the ideal solution.
Why an eyelid correction?
The skin around the eyes is very thin and therefore stretches more easily. As a result, the skin becomes slack, and an excess of skin can occur or fat accumulates on the upper and/or lower eyelid. Other discomforts may include an oppressive feeling, deteriorated vision, an obstructive feeling, problems with makeup, watery eyes and headaches. Anyone can experience these, even at a younger age.
With eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, we painlessly remove excess skin, remove or reposition fat and adjust the muscles of the eye contour. As a result, you look younger and fresher again. Your vision is better and previous complaints such as watery eyes and headaches disappear.
Types of eyelid corrections
Wellness Kliniek offers 3 different types of eyelid corrections. During the no-obligation consultation, the doctor will determine which option is best for you.
Upper eyelid correction
During this procedure, we remove excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids. The doctor emphasises the shape of your eyes and makes sure the scar is exactly in the crease of your eye. As a result, the scar is barely visible after healing.
Lower eyelid surgery
When the skin under the eyes sags or when there is thickening, a correction of the lower eyelid can be a solution. The incision is made just below the edge of the eyelashes so the scar is not noticeable.
Correction of the lower and upper eyelid
In some cases, correction of the lower and upper eyelid is necessary to achieve the best result.
Tips after eyelid correction
Fluid retention after eyelid surgery
A common question is, "How long does the swelling last after eyelid surgery?". After surgery, the eyelids may be somewhat thick, blue and swollen. The swelling is caused by an accumulation of fluid in the eyelids. The duration of this swelling is different for everyone. We recommend cooling your eyelids for 10 minutes every hour after the treatment. You can do this with an icepack wrapped in a towel or with moist compresses.
Care of the eyelids
After eyelid surgery, you will care for your eyes at home. We recommend washing your hands regularly. The day after the intervention, you may shower again. You may gently dab your face with lukewarm water during the first weeks, but make sure you do not make the treated area too wet and do not use any products.
Take enough rest
To give the wounds and swellings time to heal, you must take plenty of rest after the procedure. We recommend not exerting yourself too much for two weeks after the procedure. Body movements such as lifting or bending over are strongly discouraged in the first 24 hours after surgery. To reduce the risk of thrombosis or embolism, however, you can exercise normally such as walking or riding a bicycle.
No makeup and mascara after eyelid correction
After the operation, you may not apply any makeup to the eyes. This way, you avoid impurities getting into the wounds. Not only eye makeup, but also foundation or BB cream should be avoided around the eyes. Once the wounds have healed, you can apply makeup again.
Irritated eyes after an eyelid correction
To avoid irritated and tired eyes, it is best not to strain your eyes. Watching TV, reading and using the phone should be limited after the eyelid correction. This way, you avoid irritation and ensure the eyes become less dry.
Sleeping on your side after eyelid correction
The first two weeks after eyelid surgery, we advise against sleeping on your side and you should sleep on your back. Sleeping on your stomach or side can loosen or damage your stitches.
