Dental Veneers:
Composite veneers - Lumineers - Procera ®

Discoloured, crooked and uneven teeth can be corrected with porcelain veneers: facings (also called veneers or lumineers).  Facings, Veneers, Lumineers, Shields, Procera laminates: which one should I choose?

In general we can offer the following advice about facings - veneers - lumineers - Procera facings :

Advantages:

  • Easy to fit
  • Beautiful results achieved immediately

Disadvantages:

  • Can be damaged by excessive strain or grinding of the teeth.
  • Not suitable for sensitive teeth.
  • Proper dental care and dental hygiene is still important.
  • Regular dental check-ups are still necessary.
  • Expensive compared to a crown which is stronger and lasts longer.

Dental Facings - Veneers
Composite clay

The dentist applies a layer of clay to the teeth, which hardens. This clay is the same white filler which the dentist uses for fillings. The clay is a paste and can be applied in a thick or a thin layer. This means that the form of your tooth can also be corrected. The tooth can be made longer or wider.

The advantage of composite facings - veneers is that it offers a cheap solution.

The biggest disadvantage is that the colour and the structure of the paste doesn't match your other teeth 100%.

Therefore the result is often quite unnatural and has little to do with aesthetic dentistry.

Ready-made shields

Ready-made facings or shields can be compared to false nails (acrylic nails). They can be easily applied to your teeth. In the end a nail stylist creates far better results because an acrylic nail is made-to-measure.

It's not just the shape which usually doesn't fit.

The colour and the structure of a ready-made facing certainly don't match the rest of your teeth.

Dental Facings - Lumineers
Wafer-thin ceramic

Lumineer Veneers - Limineer facings are made from dental porcelain, a ceramic material. The colour and shape of dental porcelain closely matches the natural tooth tissue. The porcelain is well-tolerated by the body. Lumineers are colourfast. They are preferably only fitted to the incisors.

Lumineer is a term used to describe ceramic shields. It is not a quality guarantee.

Procera® facings

The Procera system is part of Nobel Biocare, market leader in dental materials and CAD/CAM computer-aided technology for aesthetic dentistry.

  • The shields (facings - veneers - lumineers) are manufactured in the laboratory using computer-aided technology.
  • The form and colour of each facing is handmade.
  • Procera facings can be made incredibly thin.
  • A Procera facing is natural.
  • Procera facings are metal-free.
  • Fit flush to the gums.

The Procera facing is strong and non-wearing. The material looks extremely natural. Procera facings can barely be distinguished from real teeth.

Another big advantage of Procera facings is the unique and natural bonding with the gums. This means there is less risk of gum infections.

Procera facings are considerably more expensive than other luminates or veneers.

The quality is definitely worth the difference in price.

The Treatment

  • We first polish the surface of the tooth.
  • Then we make an impression of the tooth.
  • In the dental technical laboratory a specialist technician makes a facing / veneer with the desired form and colour.

To achieve a precise colour match we use SpectroShade Micro computer technology.

It is important that your facing perfectly matches the rest of the teeth.

To fix the facings / veneers securely to the teeth we first etch the tooth with acid and then apply a special adhesive layer.

You can choose the colour and shape of your new teeth yourself.
